Case Study
Find out about large event organisation
As part of a wider week with a theme based on London's bid to win the 2012 Olympic games, a group of students visited Queens Park Rangers, QPR, Stadium. Most major sites offer educational tours for fact finding and reporting with the purpose of investigating how a venue organises large events.
Travel is arranged by tube and, because booked in advance, the tickets are heavily discounted by Transport for London.
The education officer at QPR leads the tour and takes students through the entire stadium, talking about its history and how the players prepare and so on. Students ask questions about security, numbers of people and other relevant aspects of large events that they are investigating during the theme week. It is impressive listening to the questions that students come up with!
Students
have to assimilate this learning
with other experiences to
produce a presentation to
their parents about the London
bid for the 2012 Olympics.
The type of learning from
this trip could not have been
undertaken in a more effective
way in the classroom.
